Michael was born in 1970 in County Durham, UK.
After leaving school he served his time as a Cabinetmaker. For the next 20+ years he worked as a carpenter joiner for various companies and on building sites throughout the North East.
Although Michael has loved art since childhood and painted as a hobby, it wasn’t until 2011, when his children were older, that he started to take his painting more seriously. In less than a year, his work was being well received in local Art Galleries in the North East.
His trademark becoming a touch of red, to be found in every painting.
In 2013 Michael started his own business – Michael James Artworks Limited, whilst still working full-time as a carpenter.
Michael’s earliest paintings are of landscapes, however he now focuses mainly on cityscapes, from Newcastle to New York. He also loves to paint scenes of the industrial past and nostalgia, evoking memories of days gone by.
Michael has taken commissions for more specific work from clients including a painting called “Lights on the Tyne” on behalf of the NHS for a newly built hospital ward called ‘Tyne’, in Morpeth, Northumberland.
Michael is proud to be born and raised in the North East and this is clearly apparent throughout all of his work.
Michael’s new career path grows from strength to strength knowing he has found his vocation, and he would like to thank you for your interest in his artwork.
